While some artists shed light on their works' symbolism and meaning, others leave it open to interpretation.  Picasso chose not to disclose the meaning behind Guernica, although many at the time (and still today) viewed it as an anti-Franco, anti-fascist statement and an attack on the use of modern technology in warfare. 


As you complete this final section of the Web Quest, consider how you feel about the painting.  What do you think it symbolizes?  Do you like the painting? Do you think it was significant then and could still be significant today? Consider these questions and others you may have as you prepare for the class discussion.
